The Society of Labor Economists (SOLE), the premier association for labor economists in the United States, will hold its annual conference in Denver, Colorado at the beginning of May, and it will feature work written or co-written by several Upjohn Institute researchers. Additionally, two Upjohn researchers will chair panels at the conference, and two Upjohn researchers served on the program committee that selected the presentations.
- Aaron Sojourner will present his joint research on coercion and employer market power in the U.S. automotive manufacturing industry and will chair a session on “Institutions, Wage Setting & Market Structure.”
- Chloe Gibbs will moderate a discussion on “Family Policies and Family Structure” and present her co-written paper on the effects of full-day Head Start programs on maternal employment.
- Yuci Chen will present her joint paper on how the Mexican Drug War affected Mexican migration to the United States and resulting impacts on U.S. labor markets.
- Work co-authored by Brad Hershbein on the relationship between tight labor markets and job quality will be presented by one of his coauthors. Chloe Gibbs and Brad Hershbein also served on the SOLE program committee this year.
