American Job Quality Study

Measuring Job Quality

When we think about the quality of jobs, we often think about what they pay—but we ignore the many other aspects that make a job good or bad.

The American Job Quality Study (AJQS) surveyed more than 18,000 workers in 2025 and 2026 to build a comprehensive picture of the multidimensional nature of job quality. The data and analysis from the AJQS will provide critical information for policymakers, employers, and worker advocates on the quality of American jobs, who has and who lacks quality jobs, and how shortcomings might be addressed.

The American Job Quality Study is a multiyear collaboration between Jobs for the Future, the Families & Workers Fund, the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, and Gallup. An interdisciplinary team of experts on job quality convened by the Institute led the design of the AJQS survey.
