Upjohn Institute President Mike Horrigan

July 13, 2026

Upjohn Institute President Michael Horrigan has been elected vice president of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE).

Horrigan’s term will run from 2027 to 2028. He will then be in line to serve as NABE president from 2029 to 2030.

“I’ve been involved with NABE for many years, and I’m excited to serve in this new capacity,” Horrigan said. “NABE provides an important service to business economists, especially those who are relatively new to the profession.”

NABE is a leading professional association for business economists and others who use economics in the workplace. Since 1959, the organization has brought together prominent figures from economics, business, and academia through conferences, professional development programs, industry surveys, and networking opportunities.

Past NABE presidents include senior business leaders, chief economists, Federal Reserve economists, and senior executives from federal statistical agencies.

As president of the Upjohn Institute, Horrigan oversees policy research focused on unemployment, the changing nature of employment relationships, job quality, and place-based policies that support community prosperity. The Institute also operates workforce development programs in four Southwest Michigan counties, helping individuals overcome barriers to finding and keeping well-paying, in-demand jobs.

Recent research projects from Horrigan include a look at the future of the auto industry workforce in Michigan, and a report on the impact of artificial intelligence on specific careers.

Horrigan speaks frequently on national, state, and regional economic and labor market trends. Before joining the Institute, he oversaw the nation’s employment, unemployment, and inflation measurement programs at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
