Veterans and disabled individuals lag in employment gains

Employment rate by population chart

While the labor market is slowly improving, February’s employment numbers from BLS show that two key population groups have not been so fortunate.  Veterans and those with disabilities have lost ground compared to a year ago.  The employment rate for each group has declined at the same time the employment rate for the comparable general population improved.  For example, the employment rate for those with disabilities fell from 18.1 percent to 16.4 percent year over year while the employment rate for the comparable general population group increased from 63.4 to 63.9 percent.  Veterans are experiencing similar difficulty finding employment.
