The Upjohn Institute New Hires Quality Index (NHQI) tracks the earnings power of newly hired workers each month. Due to the government shutdown last fall, the survey underlying the NHQI construction, the Current Population Survey, was not fielded in October 2025. This makes it impossible to calculate the NHQI for either the October survey month (individuals taking new jobs in October) or the November survey month (individuals taking new jobs in November), as transitions in adjacent months are needed. The NHQI release will resume with the December data on February 4, 2026.
