Homelessness in Kalamazoo: The Problem, Progress, and the Path Forward

Much is being done — but we need to do more.

That was the theme of a panel discussion on homelessness in Kalamazoo, Michigan, presented by the Upjohn Institute for Employment Research.

Many factors contribute to homelessness, including housing affordability, mental health and substance addiction. The panel examined the situation in Kalamazoo and the steps taken — and still needed — to improve housing.

The discussion was moderated by Upjohn Institute President Mike Horrigan.

  • Michelle Davis, executive director, Housing Resources Inc.
  • Mary Balkema, housing director, Kalamazoo County Government
