# W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research

> The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent research organization in Kalamazoo, Michigan, founded in 1932. It studies the causes and effects of unemployment and policies and programs that promote employment, and it administers employment services for southwest Michigan. Research areas include labor markets, place-based policy and local economic development, business incentives, education and training (including Promise scholarship programs), unemployment insurance, and the future of work.
